A Study of Stress Coping and Health Locus of Control of Nursing Students

Abstract
|
|
|
This study was planned and carried to investigate the Stress Coping and Health Locus of Control of nursing students in order to provide basic data for nursing education and produce useful application for nursing practice.
Data on the Stress Coping and Health Locus of Control were gathered through questionnaires from 2, October, 1993 to 18, October, 1993. The subject of this study consisted of 175 nursing students who were 3rd. grade in An-dong Junior College.
Data analysis included frequency (%), and internal consistency reliability test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients.
The findings of this study are as follows:
1. Internal Locus of Control was higher than powerful Locus of Control and chance Locus of Control in Health Locus of Control of the respondents.
2. In their stress coping, they appeared to use long-term coping method than short term coping method.
3. A factor influencing Health Locus of Control was the motivation of selecting the department of the college. Factors influencing Stress Coping were the motivation of selecting the department of the college and the aptitude for nursing care, the satisfaction for the nursing care.
4. There were significant correlations between Stress Coping and internal Locus of Control, Stress Coping and powerful Locus of Control, long-term Stress Coping and chance Locus of Control.
